So yesterday in the news was an item about an Iranian woman who has been sentenced to death by stoning. How can such a barbaric and horrific act still exist in any society in the modern world?

It shocks and saddens me to think people anywhere in the world are still sentenced to such horrific punishments. The death penalty is one thing (which I don't agree with) but killing someone slowly by throwing stones at them is just plain disgusting. Especially when the crime is adultery. The woman doesn't deserve such a punishment no matter the Iranian views on women.

Onto another subject of note related it seems that various international governments are getting involved. Now whilst I disagree wholeheartedly with the punishment and do not wish death on this woman I don't quite understand what the hell it has to do with the rest of the world and why politicians here in England are getting involved.
